Susan Summons,   an   internationally  acclaimed motivational speaker, sports educator,  hall of fame coach and player, professor,  master teacher, actress and author. Recently, Susan became the first community college sports educator and first  community college professor in this venue to recently  be named  one of the “TOP 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America” as presented by the Institute for International Sport, “a brilliant speaker and motivator”announced the Institute. Vivian Stringer, Pat Head Summit and Dr. Harry Edwards.  Susan Summons, an associate professor in Biology Health & Wellness Department and Social Science Dept. at Miami Dade College-Kendall  is also the Head Women’s Basketball Coach who often teaches student life skills and  boast a 93% graduation and placement rate of students to the university level, one of the highest in the nation. Susan is an electric, talented, energetic, powerful, entertaining and charismatic speaker.  Susan Summons was selected one of 25 distinguished individuals from the fields of coaching, psychology, health & wellness, radio announcers, sports, and education to serve as one of the National Experts Panelist on The Center For Sports Parenting Board at the Institute for International Sports.

 

Ms. Summons has appeared on  television shows including the popular NBC South Florida Today Show, NBA Entertainment “Inside Stuff”, NBC Channel 6 Morning Show, and  WLRN and most this summer of 2010 finished filming a television reality show, “Work of Genius”  soon to air on FOX Network produced and directed by movie mogul and producer, Gino Cabanas. Susan has been interviewed on radio shows including, Boston’s WEEI with Jimmie Myers, Tom Joyner’s Hot 105 Radio Show with Rodney Baltimore, Boston’s WILD 1090,  Palm Beach 103.6, WMBN radio with Jim Berry. Susan is often described by her colleagues as “an electric inspirational motivator and trainer”. “Her voice motivates you to get up and take action”. Susan is a Master Teacher who coaches, inspires and motivates at all levels of success.  Susan became the first African American woman at the community college level to serve as an Assistant Coach for the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival Team(Bronze Medal), a Floor Coach at the USA World Championship Trials, and an Assistant Coach for the USA National European Select Team Tour(Tel Aviv,Israel and Strasbourg, France). Summons a participant in the first inaugural World Scholar Athlete Games in 1993 has served as an Ambassador of the games and has been recognized as one of the World Peace Brokers for the  2011 World Peace Youth Summit.

 

Susan Summons’ “eloquent and inspirational message should be heard by as many student athletes, coaches, and parents as possible, the Institute announced at the World Scholar Athlete Games in 2006.” A pioneer in   the first Women’s Professional Basketball League, the WBL, for  New England Gulls.
